ALARMING declines in the number of bird populations across the island of Ireland have been identified in a new report.

Of 199 species assessed, 25 have been allocated to a ‘red list’ — bird populations that need urgent action to secure their future.

The report by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) Northern Ireland and BirdWatch Ireland warns that the situation has worsened for many Irish birds in the last decade.
