MOTORISTS have been hit with a double whammy of higher motor tax and petrol charges following what AA Ireland have described as “the worst motoring budget for years”.

Workers in large cities and towns who have car parking spaces provided by their employer are also facing a new €200 levy per annum in a measure designed to promote the greater use of public transport.

The introduction of the unexpected tax will also affect an estimated 30,000 civil and public servants who enjoy free parking in Dublin.
