SEVEN out of ten people said the service provided by the gardaí needed to improve, according to the Public Attitudes Survey 2008.

Respondents said they wanted more gardaí, more officers on foot patrol, more contact with the community and longer opening hours at garda stations.

Fine Gael yesterday said this sent a “very clear message” to Justice Minister Dermot Ahern before budget day.
