BACTERIA that causes Legionnaires’ disease — a type of pneumonia that can prove fatal, has been detected at six locations at Galway University Hospital.

The Health Service Executive (HSE) stressed yesterday that no patient had been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease.

The health authority said the laboratory regularly tested patients with pneumonia and no cases of infection acquired in the hospital have been identified.
