Greens’ Gogarty calls for a €10k cut in TDs’ salary

CUTS of up to €10,000 in the TDs’ salaries should be imposed in next week’s budget, according to a Government backbencher.

Green party TD Paul Gogarty called for an 8% cut in pay for senior members of the civil service, including TDs, who earn a basic salary of just over €100,000, and senators who earn a starting rate of €70,000.

Mr Gogarty said “we all have to tighten our belts” and said politicians should “lead by example”.
