Pedestrians and motorists to blame for half of all litter
Environment Minister John Gormley has demanded greater Garda involvement in enforcing anti-litter laws as the latest survey of the country’s cleanliness shows minimal progress on tackling pollution.
Litter levels around the country are gradually falling, according to a study published by the Department of the Environment, but just 5.1% of areas can be described as “unpolluted”.
