ENTRY to Europe’s biggest poker event may have been €500 a head but that didn’t stop 800 players turning up — and a further 50 queuing for reserve tickets outside the door.

If there was ever any doubt about the popularity of the card game in Ireland, it would have been assuaged with just one look at the numbers gathered at the Ladbrokes Irish Poker Festival at the INEC in Killarney, Co Kerry.

Former world snooker champion, Ken Doherty was among the starting line-up and play continues until Sunday for the €100,000 prize. First to be knocked out was Shaun O’Brien from Tyrone.
