Fire at Artane boys’ school

GARDAÍ are investigating a fire which started at St David’s School in Artane last evening.

Fire at Artane boys’ school

The fire, which started at the back of the north Dublin school, was brought under control before 9pm.

Nobody was injured in the blaze but Minister for State at the Department of Education and local TD, Seán Haughey said early indications suggested it was “started maliciously”. It’s believed that there has been a problem with antisocial behaviour in the area.

The blaze broke out at 6.40pm at the once derelict church hall which is now used to store equipment belonging to the Artane Boys Band. A section of the former oratory has been developed as a museum.

Dublin Fire Brigade district officer Bob Henderson told RTÉ News that six units of the fire brigade attended the scene.

“We have been fighting it from the outside of the building. We still have limited information about how the fire started.”

It is not known what contents were damaged in the fire.
