African men foil sex attack on teen
The men gave the attacker “a few slaps” after they saw him trying to sexually assault a woman in her late teens in the early hours of last Tuesday.
Gardaí are satisfied the man’s intent was to sexually assault the woman but that she was saved by the men.
The incident happened just outside the Screen cinema, near Pearse Street Garda Station, at about 3am. Gardaí said the victim and a female friend had left a nearby nightclub.
A male, thought to be in his 30s, approached one of the women.
The friend was a distance away from the victim at the time.
Gardaí said the area was quite dark and there are also some trees there.
The attacker fled the scene after he was hit by the Africans, and he ran down nearby Hawkins Street, chased by the men.
Gardaí at Pearse Street are eager to talk to the two African men.
A businessman rang the gardaí to say he had CCTV footage that showed a man running down the street followed by two men. Officers are to view the footage.
