Insurance policy offers bonus for car curfew

A CAR insurance company claims it has developed a policy that will not only save lives but also up to €1,000 for young motorists currently paying huge premiums.

XS Direct has launched Pumpkin, a high excess policy that it says will save younger drivers hundreds on their premiums, if they avoid driving between 10pm and 6am on Friday and Saturday nights — the most dangerous driving times.

The company said many younger drivers use their car mostly to commute and could avoid driving on weekend nights, so the policy rewards and incentivises these “safer” driving patterns.
