Pay talks: Anger as TD salaries surpass €100,000

MOVES by TDs to ensure they pocket at least €100,000 per year have added to the bitterness engulfing government attempts to restart national pay talks.

Unions greeted the news that TD salaries had surged by some 2,500 as the final phase of the last pay deal came through yesterday, with demands the Oireachtas members spread similar good news to those on minimum wages.

The Taoiseach saw his salary grow by €7,000 to €285,000, and backbench TDs with less than seven years’ experience were guaranteed to earn at least €100,189 and those with a decade of service received at least €106,567 per year.
