MORE than 150 third-level courses, mostly in business, engineering and technology areas, will open up for fresh applications today.

Almost a third of the programmes offering vacant places through the Central Applications Office (CAO) website from midday are in business disciplines.

In a further reflection of falling demand for engineering careers, colleges are unable to fill almost 30 degree and higher certificate engineering courses because of insufficient applicants, or not enough interest from students with certain subject requirements.
