THE Government has been accused of “robbing future generations” over plans to appropriate the assets of pension funds in the semi-state sector.

The plans are expected to release up to €2 billion into the exchequer, which would keep Ireland within EU guidelines that limit the annual deficit to 3% of GDP.

A spokesperson for the Department of Finance last night said the plans are in very early stages and would require passing legislation through the Oireachtas.
