Highly lethal form of TB confirmed here

THE first case of a new highly drug-resistant form of tuberculosis has been confirmed here.

Doctors at St James’s Hospital have revealed that a 25-year-old Lithuanian woman, admitted to the hospital more than three years ago, showed a resistance to conventional treatment for the infection which was consistent with the highly lethal form of TB.

However, the woman recovered after 20 months of treatment using a cocktail of drugs prescribed by consultants at St James’s.
