Limerick CCTV incompatible

THE organisation set up to oversee the regeneration of run-down council estates in Limerick have spent €500,000 on a CCTV system to which the Gardaí do not have direct access.

It has now emerged that the new system installed by the Southside Regeneration agency is incompatible with the Garda system in other parts of the city.

The Garda control room in Henry Street has direct access to the CCTV system installed in Moyross years ago. But in order to get images from the new southside system, which covers Southill, Ballinacurra Weston, O’Malley Park, and Keyes Park, gardaí have to physically go to another control room near Southill and get tapes.
