AN IRISH trawler has been rammed by a Spanish fishing vessel amid growing tensions between Irish, French and Spanish fishermen.

The MFV Boy Jason, a 23-metre boat, was struck in the stern by the bow of the Faro de Burela, a Spanish-registered longliner almost twice its size.

The incident occurred last Wednesday about 160km south-west of Castletownbere, Boy Jason’s home port. The boat arrived back in port yesterday morning to undergo repairs after the ramming.
