School bus charges increase €175 for families in a year

A SECOND increase in school bus fees in just five months could cost some families €174 a year more than in 2007 and leave others who had free transport facing an annual bill of almost €240.

The increases announced by School Transport Minister Seán Haughey were described by the Labour party’s Ruairi Quinn as the first in a batch of Government stealth charges.

The increases will mean the cost of school transport has risen by more than half since January.
