Men treated for pellet wounds

The shootings occurred in the Kilure area of the city at about 5pm on Saturday and came within hours of an incident in which a man was stabbed a number of times with what is believed to have been a hatchet.

The violence is thought to have been sparked by a feud between two rival families.

Elsewhere in Waterford, houses in Ardmore Terrace and Birchwood were firebombed and two cars were burnt out.

At least six men were treated in hospital for injuries sustained during the various skirmishes.

The pellet gun victims’ injuries were not thought to be serious and at least two were released within a few hours.

While armed gardaí were on duty at Waterford Regional Hospital, where a number of the victims were treated, there were no arrests at time of going to press.
