IRELAND is providing far too few computers to pupils in the classroom and many teachers are not skilled enough to properly use the machines.

Those are just two of the conclusions of a damning report on the use of computers in schools which was released last night.

For its report Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Schools, the Department of Education’s inspectorate examined case studies in 50 schools, inspections of 180 schools and took survey evidence from 1,400 teachers.
