TAOISEACH Brian Cowen rejected suggestions the Government’s savings plan did not add up as he came under pressure over the issue in the Dáil.

Shortly after he and Finance Minister Brian Lenihan announced the cutback measures at a press conference in Government Buildings, Mr Cowen took questions from Opposition leaders in the parliament.

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny said the document appeared to have been “cobbled together in an ill-thought-out fashion”.
