A MAN from Ennis, seriously injured in a fall at Limerick’s Hilton Hotel, was still in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital yesterday.

Man in hotel fall still critical

The man, who is in his 20s, walked into the hotel at about 4am on Sunday with another man. According to one report, both had signs of having drink taken.

On finding out that neither was a resident in the hotel, a receptionist rang for a taxi to pick them up.

As they waited for the taxi to arrive, one of the two walked up a stairway — possibly looking for a toilet — and appeared to fall over the staircase.

Gardaí investigating the incident are satisfied that there was nobody else involved and are treating it as an accident. The man was knocked unconscious in the fall. He suffered a serious head injury.

He was taken by ambulance to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital.

However, due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was moved a few hours later to the neurological unit at Cork University Hospital.
