THE newly elected mayor of Ireland’s largest local authority says his priority for his year in office will be to get the Cork- Swansea ferry link re-established.

The mayor, Councillor Noel Harrington, said the axing of the ferry link had cost the south-west region more than €35 million per annum in lost tourism revenue.

He said he would be seeking to get a programme set up between local authorities in Cork and Kerry and their counterparts in Wales in the hope of financing a new service.
