Moving families ‘not a solution’

LIMERICK’S new mayor, Cllr John Gilligan yesterday warned that antisocial behaviour cannot be tackled by moving families out of troubled estates into settled areas.

“The solution has to be found and addressed in the areas themselves. If we can tackle the bricks and mortar we can tackle antisocial behaviour,” he said. “Moving the problem around the city does not help. It makes the situation worse.”

He said some people who will get new housing as part of the new regeneration plan will have to “cop themselves on, or else make their own way”.
