A YOUNG Cork engineering student has invented a device that stops visually impaired swimmers from crashing against pool walls.

Currently, visually impaired swimmers depend on someone tapping them on the head or shoulder to warn them of an approaching pool wall.

Kieran O’Callaghan, a final-year student at Cork Institute of Technology has developed a warning system using a camera and computer that pinpoints a swimmer’s position from the pool wall.
