A LEADING developer who has pulled out of five large housing projects for Dublin City Council is to proceed with the Thornton Hall prison project, the Irish Examiner understands.

Bernard McNamara, who heads one of the biggest construction companies in the country, announced on Monday its withdrawal from plans to build hundreds of local authority homes owing to “substantial changes” in the housing market.

While no contract has been signed for the Thornton project, McNamara is the preferred bidder with the Department of Justice.
