SINN Féin has urged voters to reject the Lisbon Treaty and force the Government into renegotiating a “better deal” for Ireland.

But Labour has rejected the party’s argument, saying it is misleading to suggest an improved deal could be secured if Lisbon were defeated.

Although it has been canvassing on the issue for several months, Sinn Féin formally launched its campaign against the treaty in Dublin yesterday. Rather than party president Gerry Adams, it is MEP Mary Lou McDonald who will lead Sinn Féin’s campaign and her face that will appear on the party’s posters.
