ST JAMES’S Gate is to remain the home of Guinness, despite losing half its site and one third of its production.

However the black stuff will no longer be brewed in Kilkenny or Dundalk, with both of those facilities due to close in five years’ time.

Under a restructuring programme unveiled by parent company Diageo yesterday, a new brewery will be built “close to Dublin” in 2013 which will take over all production from Kilkenny and Dundalk, some duties from the Waterford plant and a third of the work carried out at St James’s Gate.
