New flights from Waterford
The first Amsterdam flight left on Friday to much excitement. Passengers can travel on four weekly flights — Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Aer Arann will also launch a further five destinations from Waterford this month — Faro twice weekly, Malaga twice weekly, Bordeaux twice weekly, Lorient three times a week and Galway.
Speaking at the launch of the Amsterdam service, Waterford Airport chief executive Graham Doyle said: “This service further enhances the range of destinations available from Waterford Airport and the connections from the south-east to continental Europe and beyond.”
The new routes also gives access from Europe to the south-east, said Mr Doyle. “As a result, it will add enormous vitality to the regional tourist industry. There are opportunities for niche holiday packages to be marketed for the whole of the south-east.”
Minister Martin Cullen said the airport is “one of the success stories of the transport sector in Ireland in recent years.”
Aer Arann managing director Garry Cullen spoke of the company’s “firm commitment to the development of the region and its airport.”
