MORE than €800,000 of cannabis and cocaine was found in Cork yesterday.

Herbal cannabis with a street value of €600,000 was found in an apartment in the suburbs.

Anglesea Street Divisional Drugs Unit found the drugs during a search of the home at Mount Oval Estate in Rochestown at about 5pm yesterday.

A man in his early twenties was arrested and taken to Togher Garda Station. He is being held under Section 2 of the Drugs Trafficking Act.

Meanwhile, a 25-year-old Venezuelan woman was stopped by gardaí coming off a plane from Malaga to Cork yesterday.

Three kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of €210,000 were found in her bags.

The woman was also taken to Togher Garda Station where she is being questioned.

Meanwhile, in a separate investigation, gardaí and customs officers are searching a ship docked in Cork Harbour as they suspect drugs may be on board.

The search at Ringaskiddy started yesterday afternoon. One Garda source said that as the ship was so big it could take days to fully examine the vessel.

No further details were available last night.
