Suicide services seek funding

NOTHING has been done to improve services for desperate people seeking help after 5pm, according to an action group set up in the wake of recent murder-suicides.

The 24/7 pressure group said yesterday that “absolutely nothing” has been done to improve facilities for those whose only outlet seems to be the destruction of their own — and their loved ones’ — lives.

They are now promising to “go after the government” until improvements are delivered and will shortly be launching a campaign to highlight their concerns and to try and achieve results.

In a statement released yesterday evening, the HSE said that additional funding of €26.2 million was provided in 2006, and a further €25 million has been provided in 2007 as part of the multi-annual investment programme in mental health services.
