FIGURES have revealed that one in four court cases requiring the use of an interpreter involve Polish speakers.

Statistics provided by the Courts Service — after the first year of its interpreters system — show that the top five languages heard in court apart from English were: Polish, Lithuanian, Romanian, Russian and Mandarin.

The figures also indicate that there has been a “month-on-month increase in the volumes of requests for these five languages”.
