Cork Week promises star studded crew

WHILE the flapping sails of hundreds of yachts will provide a massive spectacle off Crosshaven in July, there is also plenty of events lined up to entertain the landlubber.

Details of the entertainment line up for the ACC Bank sponsored Cork Week were announced last night and the impressive list includes headline acts such as Revenge, Aslan, The Walls, Bagatelle and Paddy Casey.

One of Ireland’s most popular cover bands, Revenge, will “cast-off” the shoreside fun with a gig in Crosshaven on Saturday, July 12.

The following day it will be the turn of Aslan, who were named Best Irish Band at the recent Meteor Awards, beating off the likes of Ash, Delorentos and the Flaws.

Aslan recently hit the number one spot with Christy Dignam and Billy McGuinness appearing on The Ballad of Ronnie Drew.

One of the country’s best live acts, The Walls — with their smash hit To the Bright and Shining Sun’ — will gig on the Monday. Their pedigree is underlined by the fact that they have played support to U2, Bob Dylan and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The immortal Bagatelle, whose classics include Summer in Dublin, and Leeson Street Lady will perform on July 15th, while the hugely popular Paddy Casey is sure to be a big draw the following night.

Thursday’s headline act will be J-90, whose outstanding dedication to rock and pop is destined to put these five boys from Cork on the map.

They have a rock ‘n’ roll image and ability to get the crowds on the dance floor with their musical talent and entertaining stage presence.

Finishing off the festival — which is media sponsored by the Irish Examiner — are Blue Moose, who are firmly established as one of Ireland’s most in-demand bands. They will play on Friday, July 18.

Tickets for all shows will be €25, except for Paddy Casey at €30. They go on sale next Monday, April 14 at 9am from all Ticketmaster outlets nationwide, or through ticketmaster.ie.
