Food businesses shut down
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) said lax hygiene practices would not be tolerated.
“Food safety legislation sets minimum standards which businesses must comply with,” said FSAI chief executive John O’Brien.
He said owners had to operate to a stringent food safety management plan to ensure simple problems can be avoided.
Yesterday, the FSAI named the latest food businesses to get enforcement notices requiring action following hygiene lapses.
On March 8 Anthony Dunne and Christy Dunne were served with a closure order for their chip van which trades in Bertie Ahern’s constituency.
On March 19 the FSAI closed down the Metzo diner, which trades in the grounds of the Travelodge Hotel in Navan Road, Castleknock, Dublin 15.
The Irish Examiner understands the restaurant has since re-opened but the FSAI’s official website does not show the date the closure order was lifted.
On March 7 the FSAI lifted a clean-up order served on Donnacha O’Leary after he improved food hygiene at Cashman’s Bar in Academy Street, Cork.
