Oyster Bank most suitable site for container terminal, hearing told

A BORD Pleanála oral hearing was yesterday told that the Oyster Bank at Ringaskiddy was the most suitable of three sites examined for the Port of Cork’s proposed new €226 million container and cargo terminal.

At day two of the hearing, Richard Marks — a member of the International Cargo Handling Co-ordination Association — who has been involved in the design of a number of container terminals said Marino Point and the Curlane Bank were not as suitable as the Ringaskiddy site.

Mr Marks said that when IFI closed its plant at Marino Point in 2002, the Port of Cork looked at the facility.
