A BUSKER is planning to shadow U2 on its next world tour by performing his one-man show in every city.

Derek Power, who fronts Dublin tribute band Vertigo, is also looking for a TV crew to screen his efforts.

U2, which recently released 3D concert movie U23D, is due to launch its new album this autumn and embark on a 12-month world tour afterwards.

Mr Power has just returned from Japan where he participated in the St Patrick’s Day Parade.

“U2 are releasing their new album around October which means they will start touring the following March.

“I plan on busking or playing in a pub in the same city where U2 will be performing at that time, so basically it’s a U2 tribute busking world tour.”

The musical journey is likely to take Power to the US for a total of six months, two months in Europe and two months in South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The performer will be singing U2 hits using backing tracks on a suitcase-sized sound system.

He aims to use the gigs to fund the huge transport, accommodation and food bills he expects to mount up.

“I’m also putting an appeal out for a documentary crew to follow me.”

He joked: “Or if Led Zeppelin or Dicky Rock aren’t using their tour bus, I’d be very grateful to have a lend of it.”

As well as impersonating Bono with the Vertigo band, Power already plays a one-man U2 tribute show in pubs called Bono Power.
