FINE GAEL has assembled a think-tank to devise a scheme of universal healthcare as an alternative to the current system of private and public patients.

Former party leader Alan Dukes is to head up the group — the Commission on Transforming Public Services. It will have its first meeting shortly and is due to report back in early autumn.

Enda Kenny, Fine Gael’s current leader, said the goal was to end the two-tier system, cut waiting lists, improve patient safety and care as well as drive reform.
