Bertie admits being fan of sketch show

TAOISEACH Bertie Ahern showed he had a sense of humour yesterday when he admitted to tuning in to the spoof show, Nob Nation, which mercilessly pokes fun at him and his cohorts in the Dáil.

Bertie admits being fan of sketch show

Mr Ahern rang into the Gerry Ryan Show yesterday to wish the popular broadcaster happy birthday on the show’s 20th birthday.

And he admitted that he does tune in to sketches that regularly make him and opposition leader Enda Kenny the subject of satire.

“Yes, I do listen to it and I enjoy it,” he said with a laugh.

“I try and listen whenever I can but I’m usually out on the road.”

The Taoiseach rang in to the 2FM show to thank the broadcaster for his work over the airwaves for the past two decades.

“Well done on 20 years of hard work and huge entertainment and huge information to an Irish audience who are very grateful. Some great work has been done by you and the crew.

“The programme has pushed out a lot of boundaries and reached out to Irish communities, which we would be conscious of coming up to Paddy’s Day.

“You broadcast in a lot of foreign cities and did a show from the Lebanon around Patrick’s Day. The troops are now moving out to new ventures but they did great service out there and were very appreciative of the recognition they got through the Gerry Ryan Show,” the Taoiseach said.

It was the second time this week that a high-profile listener rang 2FM — Bono rang the Colm and Jim-Jim Breakfast show to assure them his voice was still up to the high notes despite reports saying he was past it.

The Taoiseach also admitted he hoped Paddy the Plasterer would give him a dig-out again — but this time from the four-legged version. “I did put money on Padydeplasterer back when the odds were better,” he said.
