Business ethos damaging universities, say lecturers

UNIVERSITY lecturers have expressed fears about the commercialisation of campuses.

Their most serious concern is the changing of universities from places of learning into businesses driven by generating research income.

A survey of Irish Federation of University Teachers members found about three out of four believe student welfare and academic standards are under threat from what they perceive as the increasing commercial demands on institutions.
