Harney: Cancer test delay not acceptable

IT IS unacceptable patients are waiting up to a 18 months for a bowel cancer test, Health Minister Mary Harney admitted yesterday.

She was responding to statistics showing patients are having to wait long periods for an initial cancer diagnosis.

Some public patients are having to wait between nine and 18 months for a colonoscopy examination — a key test for bowel cancer.
