HEALTH workers will soon have to alert the national register for infectious diseases of every new case of a potentially deadly, diarrhoea-related super-bug.

Harney to reclassify C diff as notifiable disease

The move comes after patients’ welfare campaigners were told by Minister for Health Mary Harney she is making clostridium difficile, or C diff, a notifiable disease.

Up to now, cases of C diff, which claims more lives per year than MRSA, have only been recorded by certain hospitals.
