Murder charges: Inquest adjourned

AN inquest into the death of a man who was stabbed in Cork last summer was opened and adjourned yesterday because two men have been charged with his murder.

John Brett, aged 24, from Leitrim Street, Cork, and Jason Quinlan, aged 29, of Loughmahon Drive, Mahon, in Cork, are due to stand trial having been charged with the murder of 24-year-old father of two Brian McKee, at Ballinure Avenue, Mahon, Cork, on August 25, 2007.

Mr McKee died at Cork University Hospital hours after being involved in a fracas with several others in the Mahon area.

Coroner Myra Cullinane said a postmortem conducted by deputy state pathologist Dr Michael Curtis established that Mr McKee died of multiple stab wounds. Inspector Ger O’Mahony applied to have the inquest adjourned until the criminal proceedings have been completed.
