Tribunal rejects Desmond mobile phone legal bid

FINANCIER Dermot Desmond has failed to get access to a legal opinion given the week before the award of the country’s second mobile phone licence on May 16, 1996.

The Moriarty Tribunal posted its 33-page ruling, which rejected Mr Desmond’s bid, on the inquiry website yesterday.

For several years Mr Justice Michael Moriarty has been probing the GSM licence competition and subsequent award to the Esat Digifone consortium.
