WATERFORD Institute of Technology is playing a key role in helping the region become a centre for excellence and a major operator in the rapidly expanding telecommunications industry globally, a minister has said.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin made his comments at the world’s largest communications trade show in Barcelona. WIT was the only college in Ireland to participate in the show, which attracts 60,000 visitors.

WIT’s Telecommunications Software and Systems Group (TSSG) had demonstrations and campus companies at five separate stands at the Mobile World Congress 2008.
