Man remanded in connection with doorman shooting

Wayne McNally, aged 23, from Dublin’s south inner city, appeared before Dublin District Court to face a firearms charge.

He was arrested early on Sunday morning following a shooting at a club on the Naas Road, near Clondalkin, west Dublin.

A bouncer received injuries in the incident, which occurred outside the Hush nightclub at the Red Cow Inn shortly before 2am on Sunday.

McNally, with an address at Ross Road in Christchurch, was arrested by gardaí at about 5am at the Dolphin House flats complex.

He was taken to Clondalkin Garda Station where he was detained under section 30 of the Offences against the State Act.

Garda Basil Grimes, of Clondalkin Garda Station, provided the details of arrest, charge and caution at Kilmainham District Court.

McNally, who was wearing white runners and a black tracksuit, sat with his arms folded during the brief sitting.

Garda Grimes said the accused was charged at Clondalkin Garda Station just before midnight on Monday. He said McNally had made no reply when cautioned.

He said the defendant was charged under section 15a of the Firearms Act 1925, relating to the possession of a firearm — a Glock 9mm semi-automatic handgun — at Hush nightclub on February 10, with the intent to endanger life.

Garda Grimes applied for the accused to be remanded in custody for a week.

He said he had no objection to free legal aid being granted.

McNally’s solicitor said there was no objection to the remand request.

He applied for free legal aid and furnished the court with a statement of means.

Judge Brian Sheridan remanded McNally in custody for a week to Cloverhill Prison.
