Air traffic controllers to begin action

AIR traffic controllers in all three of the country’s main airports will begin a series of temporary work stoppages in the next three weeks in protest at being made to work overtime due to a shortage of manpower.

The controllers’ trade union IMPACT yesterday served notice on the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) that it intends to officially ban its members from working overtime shifts from February 26.

It will also begin a series of work stoppages after that date, but pledged to give the IAA at least seven days’ notice before withdrawing service.
