Limerick company’s €100m expansion

GIANT healthcare corporation Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary Vistakon will today announce a €100 million expansion at its Limerick plant.

It will create another 60 jobs, bringing its workforce at the Plassey facility to 660.

Industry sources say the massive amount being investment is hugely significant and a big commitment to the long-term presence of Johnson & Johnson in this country.

Vistakon, which started up in Limerick in 1996, make disposable contact lenses at Plassey.

Enterprise Trade and Employment minister Micheál Martin will announce the expansion at a press briefing called for the Castletroy Park Hotel this afternoon.

The Vistakon Limerick facility is the largest of the company’s production plants outside the US and Johnson & Johnson companies now employ more than 2,000 people at a number of locations in this country.
