THE caring, sporting, educational and professional contributions of people to their communities on both sides of the Cork-Limerick border have been recognised with Charleville People of the Year Awards, organised by the Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by the credit union.

People of the year win town awards

Gerard Cott, president, said the chamber was founded in 1998 with the purpose of creating the right environment to attract inward investment and additional business to the town. Affiliated to Cork Chamber of Commerce, it is run by a group of volunteers willing to devote time towards improving Charleville and helping it to grow further.

The chamber has lobbied Cork County Council to develop Ballysally Business Park. It arranged a Business Expansion Scheme to build an advance factory premises now occupied by SkidTek and initiated Ballyhoura Community Radio, which will start broadcasting on September 29 next.
