STEREOTYPES of helpless women drivers and boorish men behind the wheel are closer to fact than fiction — according to figures from AA Ireland.

The breakdown figures for 2007 reveal that women were last year more likely to seek help for a simple wheel-change than men.

But male drivers were more prone to putting the wrong fuel into their cars or having minor crashes.
