Byrne threatens resignation over camera delays

BROADCASTER Gay Byrne yesterday warned he would considering resigning as chairman of the Road Safety Authority over government delays in introducing speed cameras.

Mr Byrne expressed frustration that the long-promised expansion of a speed camera system, that could reduce road fatalities by up to 20%, was still not in place.

Speaking at the launch of a road safety awareness campaign for primary schools in Dublin, Mr Byrne said the RSA board was getting restless waiting for the introduction of speed cameras, while people were dying on Irish roads.
