Europe referendum ‘before summer’

A CRUCIAL referendum on Europe is likely to be held before the summer, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern yesterday indicated.

Ireland will be the only EU country to hold a nationwide poll on the Lisbon Treaty and if it is voted down it will plunge the union into uncertainty.

Mr Ahern said there is a possibility of including an aspect of the children’s referendum on the same day.
